Blues

CUTKD is a blues sport, which means top competing members of the club are able to obtain a full blue, half blue, or colours status! These are prestigious sporting awards and eligibility is dependent on belt level, performance in competitions, and (of course!) competing in the Varsity match against Oxford in Lent term (February/March).

The criteria for the club to award blues can be found below:

Women’s Blues

A Full Blue is awarded to an athlete fulfilling the following criteria in the same season:

  1. Only 2 full blues to be awarded each year
  2. The athlete must be at least a 1stDan (Black Belt); AND
  3. Must have achieved an A class BUCS sparring medal in a category with at least 6 competitors; AND
  4. Must have secured a place on Varsity A team; AND
  5. Must have competed at the Varsity match
  6. If more than 2 athletes achieve conditions 2-5, the top 2 from internal rankings (determined by reference to external competition medals) will be awarded the full blue

A Half Blue is awarded to an athlete fulfilling the following criteria in the same season:

  1. Only 5 half blues to be awarded each year
  2. The athlete must be at least a 4thKup (blue belt); AND
  3. Must have achieved a Class A or B BUCS sparring medal in a category with at least 6 competitors; AND
  4. Must have competed at the Varsity Match
  5. If more than 5 athletes achieve conditions 2-4, the top 5 from internal rankings (determined by reference to external competition medals) will be awarded the half blue

Club colours are awarded to athletes with at least a yellow belt who participated in Varsity match/a BUCS competition but have not achieved Half Blue/ Full blue criteria criteria.

 

Men’s Blues

Upon submission of sufficient evidence to the MBC, a Full Blue is awarded to an athlete (maximum of 2) fulfilling the following criteria in the same academic year:

  1. The athlete must be at least a 1stDan (Black Belt); AND
  2. Must have achieved a ranking within the top 10% of the competitors in the Class A BUCS competition within their category in an individual sparring or patterns; AND
  3. Must compete in the Varsity A team; AND
  4. If more than 2 athletes achieve conditions 2-5, the top 2 from internal rankings (determined by reference to external competition medals) will be awarded the Full Blue.  

Upon submission of sufficient evidence to the MBC, a Half Blue is awarded to an athlete (maximum of 5) fulfilling the following criteria in the same academic year:

  1. The athlete must be at least a 4thKup (Blue Belt); AND
  2. Must have achieved a ClassA or B BUCS medal in a category with at least 6 competitors; AND
  3. Must have competed at the Varsity Match (in either team),
  4. If more than 5 athletes achieve conditions 2-4, the top 5 from internal rankings (determined by reference to external competition medals) will be awarded the Half Blue
