Cambridge Open
The Cambridge Open is a national open Taekwondo tournament held annually in Cambridge. As an open competition it is primarily intended to introduce novices to competitive sparring, but all belt levels are encouraged to enter.
The competition follows WTF rules - these may be found at the WTF site.
Varsity
The Varsity match is held annually in February.
There are two mens teams and one womens team, each with five fighters.
The rules can be found here.
The style is in between ITF and WTF, and much of lent term
is spent training with these rules.
BSTF Student Nationals
Usually held in March at a university. The competition is
run by the BSTF with both Poomsae (patterns) and Kyorugi
(sparring) contests.
Olympic style WTF rules apply, and every competition is run
to the highest degree of professionalism available,
typically with three full-sized sparring rings, electronic
score-boards, and Olympic-style jigsaw matting.
Kyorugi is split into eight weight divisions, four belt
categories, as well as male and female, as is standard
at large Taekwondo competitions. Poomsae is split into
four belt categories as well as male and female.
There are individual medals for both Poomsae and Kyorugi,
as well as a team award for the University Team
with the most medal points.
We regularly compete at the nationals and often win medals.
